Family-Friendly Biking in the Shoalhaven

Holiday Haven
11 Oct 2023

Bringing your bike on holiday with you not only gives you an easy way of getting around your local area (without ever needing to reach for the car keys), it also allows you to explore some of our famous natural beauty at a leisurely pace. Of course, you don’t HAVE to take it easy. If thrills and spills on a pump track or BMX circuit are more your speed, we’ll show you where to find these too. Read on to learn more…

Pump/BMX Tracks

With their contained course layouts, and easy access from your accommodation, Pump tracks are popular with all ages – but especially kids! The Shoalhaven offers many tracks (with more arriving every year) including Kangaroo Valley (just north of the iconic Hampden Bridge) and a similar track layout at Shoalhaven Heads. BMX enthusiasts should head to Culburra’s Curley’s Bay pump track, Basin View Reserve near Jervis Bay or further south to Ulladulla’s BMX circuit. And if you’re staying in Holiday Haven Lake Tabourie, you don’t even need to leave the park – with a pump track right on site!

Sealed Bike Paths

Looking to explore the local area further? Staying at Holiday Haven’s White Sands or Huskisson Parks will connect you directly to the 11km long Round the Bay shared bike path. The fully sealed path runs from Callala Bay to Vincentia, taking in great water views along the way – you can even take your bikes across the ferry from Myola to Huskisson. Meanwhile, near Ulladulla you can enjoy the 5km shared path between Milton and Mollymook as well as the Millard Creek Cycleway near Holiday Haven Ulladulla

Off-road Bike Tracks

Starting near Holiday Haven Kangaroo Valley, the return ride to the Upper Kangaroo River offers brilliant views. You’ll also find great mountain biking tracks at Currambene State Forest (between Nowra and Jervis Bay) – more than 20km of fun riding with great names like Coondoo, Superbowl and Butterfly. For those at Holiday Haven Shoalhaven Heads, you can tackle the sandy trails along Seven Mile Beach between Gerroa and Coolangatta including the Crooked River Trail and Heads to Beach Rd Trail. Meanwhile, Ulladulla’s One Track for All allows bike access to the headland near the harbour, while you’ll find a stack of fun trails at Woodburn State Forest, just south of Holiday Haven Burrill Lake.

Hiring and Maintenance

Keen to hire (or buy) a bike during your stay? Or maybe looking for repairs, accessories or advice? Nowra’s Ultimate Cycles and the Bike Shack are central. You’ll also get great friendly service from shops in Berry and Callala Bay (who also offer a mobile mechanic service). Meanwhile, if you’d like to hire some wheels in the Jervis Bay area, you’ll find cruisers, tandems and even kick scooters in Vincentia, or the team at Pineapple Bike Hire can deliver to your accommodation. Nice!
